Shaving Ex Machina
Fancy a shave from a robot? Not a chance, despite the hype and a slightly ahem* ad from EE
There’s a palpable fear of AI across many professions, the march of the machines, you can probably play AI fear article bingo, Skynet, tick. Open the pod bay doors please HAL, tick. And on it goes. Reality will be far more mundane. The fear for professionals is just the fear that manual workers have had since sabot were being jammed into machines during the industrial revolution.
Take law. What drives the huge fees that top barristers command? Their knowledge of case law, the clarity and consistency of the argument they can present based on that knowledge.
AI will have a greater command of case law than any barrister, will be more consistent than any human and faster than a team of whippets. Ai is the mechanical loom of the information age.
Give it a few years (months) for a tech savvy barrister to develop a working set of input commands and AI is going to eat the legal profession for a morning snack. If I was a barrister, I’d be looking at hanging up my wig, sharpish.
But a machine with a cutthroat razor? That’s a different prospect.
Of course, that’s not to say there won’t be a plenty of help from AI for barbers. Business planning, scheduling, stock control, marketing, copywriting. The admin, that gets taken care of by AI, but barbering is an interpersonal profession, it relies on human interaction, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Barbering is not just about cutting hair; it’s relationships with clients, understanding their preferences, personalisedrecommendations. The human element won’t be replaced by machines, we’re not lawyers, we’re humans, providing a service to other humans.
So, time for a career change? We’ve got some barbering and teaching programs, give us a call. Next courses starting throughout May. Link here to COURSES
